Through Jan. 31, 2012, GHC subscribers may play Kona Country Club's two layouts, but our long-standing program with Kona CC will end at that time. For all intents and purposes the Kona CC Mountain Course is now a repository for municipal golf in the Kona area. With the island's only municipal course about 100 miles away in Hilo, the county and Kona Country Club have entered into an arrangement where residents pay $25 (with cart) to play the course and the county kicks in another $20 or so for each resident golfer. The formula is much more convoluted than that, but that's the gist. As a result, there is little need to deliver visitor golfers to what is now a relatively busy and crowded golf course catering to the local market. Ownership believes those rounds will be displaced to the much higher priced Ocean Course, which shares the same clubhouse, carts, practice area and parking lot. Probably best to visit our fabulous array of Big Island courses better suited to visitor golfers like you!

"The Garden Island" is no longer the golf heaven it once was. Some resort courses have actually been closed (27 resort holes are closed at the moment plus another nine that will never re-open), while they are supposedly "renovating." The few remaining golf options offer little or no value to visitors seeking wall to wall golf. Even their terrific municipal course has inflated rates for visitors. But it is a charming island to visit for a very short stay. Our advice is go to Kauai for 3-5 days and then head to The Big Island, Maui or Oahu for some real golf action and exceptional value. —IMPORTANT WARNING—
Beware of sharp Internet operators who charge you to access these or higher rates. They also fail to tell you about taxes or anything about themselves. In fact, they actually have the audacity to tell you these are INTERNET SPECIALS! Don't be fooled by the scam artists! And beware of the bait and switch to high-priced vouchers!

BEWARE OF HIGHER PRICES AND NO ADDED-VALUES!

Do they offer better prices, unlimited golf, range balls, pro shop discounts and 90-day tee times at most courses? No way. Not a chance!
BEWARE OF THE TOKEN DISCOUNT!
“Pretenders” are big on the token discount. If you’re looking for $15 off a “rack” rate of $195 for a round of golf or $10 off a $135 rack—pretenders may have it. In fact, they promote it like it’s their own heavily negotiated deal. But truth be told, that same token discount is usually available through the lodging property you are staying at, or by telling the pro shop where you are staying, or even just by asking. Some courses, not included in our program, will even give you a standard (“token”) discount just by showing your GOLFHAWAIICARD. It never hurts to ask.
BEWARE OF AERATION RATES MASQUERADING AS VALUE RATES
The pretenders are the king of the hill when it comes to misleading consumers. They even use special rates they are given for the 10 days following aeration to sell at low prices. But they conveniently leave out the fact that these are aeration rates. Don't fall for it and don't say we didn't warn you! Fact is, if they beat us, it has to be an aeration rate. Otherwise, they never beat HawaiiGolfDeals. Period.
